Ross,
I'm actually very glad you asked, I think it's a sort of interesting story.
I'm normally a stickler for tack-sharpness (where appropriate to the
compositon). However, last spring I came upon a gallery invite for an
upcoming show that blew my socks off:
http://www.clampart.com/artists/yankus/image1full.html
(the card was much better looking than the online image).
So off I went, shooting a couple of rolls w/varying degrees of blurriness.
But the prints were mostly a disappointment. Park OOO is the only one I
consider successful. The rest of the exposures fail to convey the beauty
and excitement I felt at what I saw while shooting.
The interesting part is that when I went to see the exhibit several months
later, (after having made the prints), I was similarly disappointed by most
the other images in the gallery.
As far as "tyrannies and orthodoxies of camera club style standards", I
teach art and photography, and I always tell my students that the only rule
is that "art has no rules".
However, I don't know that this is an experiment I will repeat anytime soon.
(Although I said the same thing decades ago after shooting my first rolls
of B&W!!)
Best wishes,
Adrienne Moumin

Dear Adrienne,
Congratulations on the fine prints.
I'd be interested to hear about your approach regarding focus in "Park 000"
Please don't read this as negative criticism, I'm quite interested in
photographers choosing to escape from the tyrannies and orthodoxies of
camera
club style standards.
Julia Margaret Cameron seems to be one of the few historically to have
thoughts
on the subject of rigidities regarding focus.
