I prefer Omega to Bessler for no good reason. There are
better enlargers than either, for instance the larger Durst
machines. However, Omega has the advantage that you can
still get parts for them while older Dursts are complete
orphans.
I would suggest a D-5 with the dichroic mirror type color
head but a good D2V is fine. I would not buy a D-3. These
are the autofocus enlargers. The cam must match the lens you
use. It is possible to make cams or have them made but its a
PITA. Also avoid the older Omega's with fixed condensers,
the variable condenser is a great convenience and condenser
sets are not easy to find.
My recommendation is to check with Bob Watson, who
repairs and sells Omega (and other enlargers) his prices are
more reasonable than Harry Taylor and he does excellent
work. He has only an e-mail address, no web site.
