[pure-silver] My daughter is 4 years old, so is my Xtol ...

... and both are soooooo active !

My daughter is born the 28th of March 2002, the 30th, I mixed a 5-liter pack to develop the birth pictures.
This evening, the 31st of March 2006, I shot a test film (TMX) processed with this same batch as usual (1+1, one-shot, by rotation) and the negs came out as fine as usual.

The color of the Xtol has changed, it is now yellow, like a pale bier while it was still colorless at 2 years and a half (I'm sorry, I missed the 3 years' test ...).
I've still 4x 100ml bottles so let's see next year !

For those interested, here is how I prepare it, nothing exceptional anyway:
- part A completely dissolved in demineralized water (at room temp) before starting to dissolve part B.
While stirring, I try to avoid to insert air in the liquid. I do not boil the water although this should help to remove the dissolved gases. Do not use a metalic recipient or any other tool (stirring rod, etc ...), only genuine plastic ...
- I fill 4x1-liter brown glass bottles (pharmacy type) up to the neck and the remaining goes into 100ml bottles (same type) also filled up to the neck. As all these bottles store slightly more than their nominal value, I obtain slightly more than 8 small bottles.
- when all small bottles are empty, I use a 1-liter one to fill them again and so on.
- the bottles are stored in a closed cupboard, in the dark, at room temperature (between 18 to 24°C, 64-75°F)

The 100ml bottles were chosen because this is the minimum quantity of chemistry required to process a 135-36, 120 or 8x10" and, as I process by rotation with a 1+1 dilution, there is also enough chemistry to wet completely the film.

Letting aside the sudden-death syndrome and all the noise surrounding it, what are the normal causes, except oxydation, for a developer (and an ascorbate-based developer) to go bad ?
