Whoops! Correction, my old Supermatics run slow at the
higher speeds. Low speeds are pretty close. Beside cleaning
there is a tension adjustment for the escapement. You may
not want to undertake making this adjustment but the
cleaning is easy and does not require disassembly to any
great extent. Speed and Crown Graphics mostly used any of
four shutters, all pretty good ones. Up to about 1940 the
most common was the Compur, either the dial set or rim set
type can be found depending on age. The other shutters were
the Kodak Supermatic and Flash Supermatic and the Wollensak
Graphex, which is the same as the Rapax. Whatever you think
of Wollensak lenses their shutters were quite good. A few
war time Graphics had Ilex shutters. These can be made to
work as well as they ever did but are not as accurate as any
of the above.
Most other 4x5 press cameras had the same shutters.
