Use value is more important than market value.

This was my point exactly. Justin hasn't "overpaid" by $475, since presumably he has made many irreplaceable photographs with his camera in the three years since he bought it. Likewise I have recouped the many thousands of dollars I have spent on quickly-outmoded computer gear over the years, both in work performed with them and in expertise gained which has led to a moderately lucrative career.

For a photo-related example, I paid $1000 in 1997 for my Toyo 45F view camera and lens, which by current standards is probably more than double what it is "worth." But without it I would not have made these and many other photographs:

So from my perspective it was a pretty good value.

Sorry if this was not more clear - I am currently under the influence of hay-fever medication so all bets are off.

Best regards,
Aaron
