Well I'd second way beyond monochrome, having been stuck in a motel for the 
past three 
months with little to do 
but read. Other light relief includes the SPSE handbook of photographic Science 
and 
Engineering, at 1400+ pages 
its reasuring to have if you find yourself rushing tim's book.
Away from photography books that have stuck in my mind are reading "Gillead" by 
Robinson, 
and a great book 
about growing up in new york in the 1860's by a guy called Van Vyck (I think he 
got an 
expresway named after 
him), and finally something called "the tipping point".
