Dear Uncle,
Consider using Rodinal, at first 1+50 dilution, and if not enough, 1+25
or lower.
This will give you a mix of grain and sharpness making you negatives
unique.
Do not try to reticulate your negs, it won't work. I tried with TMZ and
the base quite melted before the reticulation shows. As films are well
hardened today, I think reticulation is something of the past.
Have fun !

Dear Uncle Dick -
I can confirm the Dektol "method". Many years ago, it was standard
practice for the college newspaper photogs (of which I was one). Speed
Graphic, 4 x 5 Tri-X, 2 minutes in paper-strength Dektol (followed by
10-second rinse, 2 minute rapid fix, 10 second rinse, 2-minute hanging
by a corner, then print wet (Omega glassless carrier), then process the
print in the same trays just used. Lousy quality, but near-Polaroid
speed (by comparison, anyway). Grain ran from mothball to golfball, but
considering the fact that the shots were for newspaper use, the plate
screen usually cancelled the grain.
It may not give you what you want, but it won't take much time to try.
Have fun,
Nephew Bill
