OK, let's move on, but the answers to your questions can fill a book. Let's start somewhere:
Somehow you managed to talk about fixer and HCA at the same time. I assume, you know that they are totally different. Hypo and fixer, on the other hand, are the same thing.
Commercial fixers are based on sodium or ammonium thiosulfate and are often called ‘hypo’, which is short for hyposulfite of soda, an early but incorrect name for sodium thiosulfate. Ammonium thiosulfate is a faster acting fixer and is, therefore, referred to as ‘rapid fixer’. Unfortunately, some practitioners have continued using the erroneous term and expanded it referring to any type of fixer as ‘hypo’ now.

I'm ready to move on.I am struck by the confusing nomenclature around various fixing agents. Hypo, fixer, hypo clearing agent This has become a bit of an issue for me as I am re evaluting my processes and realize the mistakes I've made. So here is a question. Do the vrious rapid hypo clearing agents containing ammonium sulfite differ significantly from sodium sulfite in their activity other than for spead of clearing? What is the role of hardener with modern paper and film emulsions? Can, should selenium be diluted in amonium sulfite or sodium sulfite for toning? I am also planning to go oderless. I long ago changed to thiourea for toning. Planning on a switch to F6. The pollution of the running the collecting truck, the pollution from generating the energy used by the plant, and then there is the _truly hazardous waste_ that is the final output of a haz-mat plant.Everything pollutes.
