[pure-silver] Re: Grain Size

Gainer recommended sodium ascorbate. Several people have used ascorbic
acid by mistake with little or no image being formed because of the much
lower pH caused by the acid.

My problem with the Gainer advice is that the resulting
developer isn't
Rodinal since sodium ascorbate is itself a developing agent.
The
resulting mixture might be better but it is not what I am
looking for.

Remember that Rodinal (p-aminopnenol) is closely related
to Metol so the Ascorbic acid is probably supperadditive
with it as it is with Metol. So, when one adds Ascorbic acid
to Rodinal one winds up with a different developer. BTW, I
wonder what effect the Ascorbic acid has on the pH of the
developer. The pH will affect the activity of the developer,
the same goes for adding Sulfite.
