Years ago, before Kodak discontinued Pan-X, I used the Beutler formula
with it for several years and got very good results. Was very unhappy
when this very nice film was no longer available.

Plain water. I can't remember if I did a pre-soak though. I always
presoak Efke now. I did get good results using the ancient Windisch
compensating formula. That's the one with just catechol, sodium
sulfite, and sodium hydroxide. It seemed to toughen the efke a little,
really handy, since that emulsion is so fragile when wet. Now I'm just
using Rodinal 1:50 or 1:100 for the Efke, and I don't have to worry
about Techpan any more.
