[pure-silver] Re: Getting Organized

When I shot mostly 35mm negatives, I got overwhelmed with all of them.
Switching to mostly 4x5" helped a lot with that because I was more careful about what I took photographs of. I certainly through out negatives where I goofed in one way or another (jiggled the tripod, forgot to stop down after
composing, etc.).

Shooting large format really does slow you down and you don't make as many negatives. But the ones you make are usually better, so you end up printing a larger percentage of them.

What I do now is I estimate how many negatives I can print in a year. My estimate now is about 300. So I only shoot enough film for my yearly printing and developing time in Houston. I print about 2-3 negatives from each sheet of 120 film, but I print almost all my 4x5 and 8x10 negatives. So that figures into the calculation of how much film to shoot.
