[pure-silver] Re: Free Kodak Film

I have said this several times on this list and on others, but will say
it again. If you like a particular Kodak product like Tri-X then
continue to buy it. By boycotting Kodak products you only help to
insure Kodak's retreat from the analog market. With Kodak out of the
paper market you are still supporting Ilford when buying their paper.

Why is Kodak out of the paper market? Because they couldn't make a
profit with too few customers. It was not a diabolical plot on Kodak's
part just a practical business decision. Remember Ilford was already
forced out of the market once due to dwindling demand. If there is any
boogie man here then it is digital photography.

If you fear second-rate products then you need to continue to support
the first tier companies; Kodak, Fuji, and Ilford.

When the 4x5 Tri X box is used up, I'm supporting the only
company that stakes its future on monochrome, Ilford. They may not
necessarily have been my first choice in film or paper, but if they go,
my choices will be second-rate. Above all, we need one of the big three
to do decent variable contrast fiber paper. If that goes, then the other
alternatives, as far as I have evaluated, are a poor substitute.

I signed up a while ago to be kept up to date on Kodak
TRADITIONAL materials, I have gotten several e-mails
from kodak on DIGITAL technology, and a package of
paper in the mail which was marked "Photo Paper" -
nowhere did it refer to digital or inkjet, but that is
                what it was.

Now with this promotion, they will give away some
film, then decide that there is no profit in that and
                they will discontinue the films

I have about given up on Kodak, and am working on
shifting from those remaining kodak products to other
suppliers - I think that the only Kodak product which
I still am addicted to is HC-110.
