Rubylith is a red film used in graphics application, among others.  It was
and still is used as a mask ( for B+W ... I do not know about color).

If you buy some rubylith ( thin plastic, comes on a roll) and cut out your
desired size, and internal size, this would work and provide sharp edges.
Holding it down using some less than all powerful magnets would work, but a
top mask of cardboard and then the magnets would work even better.

Someone suggested a magnetized sign ( like realtors use on the sides of
their BMWs...) this sounds to me like a good suggestion....  Getting them
cut to a precise size may be more challenging.
