Nick is the baseboard of the easel steel? (ie magnetic?) One possibility would be to go to your local sign shop and get a piece of magnetic sign vinyl and cut a window opening - say 10x30- also cut a 10 inch strip that can be used to mask smaller sizes. The stuff is opaque, will hold the paper flat on a steel base, and can be painted whatever color you wish. May be able to get it in black instead of white.
