[pure-silver] Re: ELC bulbs failing in D2 Dichro Head

... And if the Chromegatrol doesn't use a triac ... I am informed some use a ferro-resonant regulating transformer ...

If you open it up and find: a large transformer with two windings
separated by 1/2" or more; with blocks wedged in the core between the
two windings; and one winding is connected to an AC capacitor (aluminum
can, usually oval, with a clamp around it and two wires) => then it uses a ferro constant voltage transformer.

The common failure is the AC capacitor. Another failure is a broken or shorted wire in or around the transformer.

If it is a ferro supply then the best thing to do is to replace
the whole chromegatrol.
