I'd look at getting a used Sola CVS (Constant Voltage Source) transformer. They're big, heavy, effective, not that expensive, and they last a long time.

Sola transformers are still made. At the power level needed by the enlarger they are not too big. They regulate very well and, BTW, offer the best filtering for line transients available short of a true UPS, excellent for use with computers. I have one for my enlarger and use others for, for instance, stabliizing the power to a short wave receiver. The main problem with used ones seems to be failure of the capacitor. These are not hard to replace and caps are available.
