Subject: [pure-silver] Drying prints in blotter roll

Hi,

I just wanted to double check since I haven't used them often. In a blotter roll, the prints go face down on the blotter and the print back is on the muslin backing? Right???

Cheers,
Bogdan

Blotter rolls, books, etc, have a smooth surface material intersperced with the blotters. The emulsion side of the paper should be against the smooth surface. This is partly to prevent particles of the blotter from sticking to the emulsion and partly to control the relative rate of drying of the emulsion vs the support. Curling of paper is mostly due to the difference in shrinking of the emulsion vs the paper. The emulsion dries out much faster than the paper so if its drying rate can be slowed down the shrinkage is equalized to some extent and curling minimised. The smooth surface, usually something resembling waxed paper, is to slow the drying rate of the emulsion side.
