I mean that the main power switch to the transtab should only be turned
on at the start of your printing session and off at the end. You do not
plug the power cord from that transtab unit into a timer outlet that's
switched on and off by the timer. The transtab power cord should go
directly to the wall outlet. This isn't how it's done on, say, an Omega
enlarger. There you plug the enlarger's power cord into a timer. There
are special plugs on the back of the transtab for the color head and for
the timer. Another way to say this is that the fan should always run on
a De Vere enlarger when you are using it, both when the head is lit and
when it's not. All of this is covered in the manual.
See: http://www.khbphotografix.com/devere/
The enlarger on the left is a standard 1980s and later De Vere vertical
enlarger. Above the baseboard you see two platforms. On the platform
to the left of the column, you see a De Vere timer. On the platform to
the right you see the Transtab unit. Is this what you have, or do you
have a "custom" setup?

I don't understand any of this! When you say the main power is not
meant to be repeatedly switched on and off, what do you mean? I don't
see any alternative. It came with the timer on it, so I assume it
must be a devere timer. You flip a switch to the far left and that
turns on the fan. The next switch turns on the light for focusing.
Then you turn that off and push a button to use the timer.

Hi Shannon,
Contemporary De Vere color enlargers have a separate
transformer/stabilizer unit i.e. a transtab. The color head plugs
into the transtab, as does the timer. The transtab then plugs into
the wall. The transtab has two toggle switches. One turns on
power. When the power is on, so is the fan. The other would light
up the head, although this is usually taken care of by the timer.
Hence it's possible that the main power is on, but the head switch is
off. This would cause the fan to run but the head not to light up.
You do not want to plug the power cord from the transtab into a
timer. * The main power is not meant to be repeatedly switched on and
off! *As I said before, there a dedicated timer outlet on the
transtab unit. You really should use a De Vere timer, or an RH
designs timer with special plugs for the transtab.
