Usually it makes an awful screaming sound when the bulbs are bad. This time it didn't do that, but I changed them anyway just in case the screamer was broken.

The fan came on, but the enlarger head lights did not. So I thought a bulb was burned out (there are eight and if one goes, the light won't come on at all), and I replaced them, not knowing which one was bad. Wrong. That didn't fix the problem. So I went around looking at all the wires and connections (there are a lot) and everything looked tight. Is there anything else I should check? this enlarger is pretty old and I got it second or third hand. Somebody put it together for me, as it's pretty complex. I called the guy that usually helps me with it, but I think he may not be in the business any more, and anyway, he didn't answer his phone.
