I am curious about this research, what exactly what being tested? The development potential is an old method of testing for the activity of developers but I am not at all sure its considered valid any more nor do I think this is what was being tested for here.

I developed test strips (APX100 in 35mm) in different dilutions of Rodinal to get a time/CI relation for each dilution. Then I exposed several negs in short time, cut the film and developed one strip each in IIRC 1+25, 1+50 and 1+100 to the same CI. After that I made 20x30cm exposures and compared them. Finding only very sublime differences, I stopped playing with different dilutions of Rodinal.

At the same time I tried to find out if modern film (APX100 and Delta100) is sensitive to "edge effects". I made test strips with the ATL3 and with intermittend agitation (10s every 2min!) with Beutler developer. I shot test films with the SL66 and two magazines. One film went into the ATL, the other one was carefully developed with 10s strong agitation every 2min. The Beutler developer and the long standing times (120s between agitations) should show visible edge effect. The problem was, I couldn't see them with 6x6 enlarged to 30x30cm. So no more hassle with agitation, I use the ATL exclusively.

It can very well be that other films show edge effects with different developer, the Delta and the APX with Beutler didn't...
