[pure-silver] Re: Developer choices for Ilford FP4+ - Justin's D76

Water @ 125°F 750 ml
Metol 2 g 30.9 grains
Sodium Sulfite 100 g

Hydroquinone 5 g 77.2 grains
Borax 2 g 30.9 grains
Cold water to make 1000 ml

I believe this is the traditional D76 recipe.  If you don't have the components or gear to measure mix, etc and don't compound other chemicals, it's certainly easier to just buy the Kodak packs.  D76 and FP4+ are likely one of the most "standard" of combinations that one could think of.  I used this combo at 1:1 for many years and when I look back at some of those old images, I wonder sometimes why I've tried so many different things over the years!  It has a true speed of 80-100 in D76 with my metering and materials, by the way.  This film is especially nice in PyroCat but it is a very forgiving film that will react well with just about anything reasonable out there.  Ryuji's DS-10 worked well with this film, too.

What do you mean, "homemade D76"?  Is it a special concoction that is like D76 or do you mean you mix D76 yourself with water?  I see recipes for developers and washes, but the stuff it's made from sounds rare and foreign to me.

Thanks.

Janet
