Hi Elias, regarding the life span of DDX, I got a bag of glass
pebbles intended for an aquarium. The glass pebbles are about the size
of a marble only they are flattened out a bit. I washed and rinsed
them really well and then put then into my half full bottles of DDX and
Rodinal. I filled the developer bottles with enough glass pebbles that
the developer came right up to the brim and then I capped the bottles
off real nice and tight and put them in the refrigerator. I expect the
DDX to last a very long time like that and the Rodinal to last forever.
Next time I use it I will top it off with more glass pebbles till it
is full again.
I can't see any reason this won't work. I wish I could take credit for
the idea but actually I gleaned it off the APUG forum as someone was
using marbles.
I am also experimenting with extending the life of mixed Dektol by
freezing it. I have seen a lot of warnings that it might not work
because one chem or another could go out of solution and then not be re
dissolved but I have never seen the report from anyone who tried it so
I decided I would try it. I mixed up the 19 liter kit of dektol and
froze several 1 liter bottles. They have been frozen solid for a month
now and I am thawing one to try today.

Good evening List,
A few threads ago it was suggested I try to see how long a bottle of
DD-X will last. So I bought a liter of it, and have used it on a roll
of IDP400, and I'm quite satisfied with the results. These are initial
findings, and I've yet to fully test my roll in the darkroom - my
contact print look good. I exposed and processed by the label, and
I've the negatives look like they'll be just fine for my condenser
enlarger. This isn't the case with other films of traditional
emulsions, or even with IDP100. The last roll os IDP400 I tried many
months ago was souped in Clayton F76, and I remember a similar result.
Is there something about IDP400 and it's Tabular Grain that makes it
thinner, and less apt to clog shadows, or have I stumbled on a
combination that suits my methods?
