It is not a staining developer. ..Hi Bob, I am surprised by your statement that PyrocatHD doesn't stain; in my hands it does (MACO IR film, Fp4 & HP5), and the stain is proportional to the silver density, the negatives work fine for dual printing : both silver gelatine and alt. photo techniques, it works also quite nice for taming the heavy highlights on IR film.
