DEAR LIST,
Quite a while back, Richard Knoppow posted the formulae for the
Defender Varigam toners. There are three bleaches and three toners and it
appears that you can get a wide variety of brown/sepia/yellow tones
depending on the combination of bleach and toner. The toners use
thiocarbamide (aka thiourea) as the sulfiding agent which does NOT produce
the smelly hydrogen sulfide gas that one gets with toners using sodium
sulfide.
I used the combination that produces a "golden sunshine" tone for 8
16X20 figure study prints that I hung in a group show that opened last
Thursday. The results are really lovely. I haven't scanned any of the
toned prints but, if I do, I will try to arrange to post them.
CHEERS!
BOB
