I used my color head - or should I say I am using it? Am on my way
back down to the darkroom now that dinner is done and cleaned up.
The exposure adjustment after filter setting change is not so bad.
The math isn't that bad. Having a chart on the wall and a calculator
makes everything so easy.
I dialed in the difference as a percent of exposure adjustment
(Darkroom Automation F Stop Timer), and that way I get to keep the
refernce to the no filter exposure that I started with. Works for me.
Of course when I start by calculating exposure using the DA meter and
charts, I don't have to worry about the filter factors so much.
It's a Durst M605. I cleaned the color head very well, and replaced
some foam seals. The filters look pretty clean, I can't imagine that
any bits of dust on them would hurt much at all. Compared to the
"Condenser" head, it runs a little cooler. The neg I'm printing from
was one that I had some trouble catching highlight detail for with
the condenser, and I'm just not having that trouble now. I guess the
developing time was meant for this enlarger, and now I know what that
means.
The convenience of dialing in the filter isn't really that big of a
deal, but it helps keep my table clear of the filters box.
What fun it is discovering for myself (at my glacial pace) what you
all have been writing about all this time!
