[pure-silver] Re: Change of subject - darkroom attire

Years ago when I took a course in analytical chemistry, we were issued
in our box of disposables two cloth diapers to dry our glassware. Cloth
diapers were chosen because they produced less lint than other cloths.
Don't even know if they still make them, but they were excellent for the
purpose.

My experience with paper towels was that they generated lots
of lint and paper fibers which were attracted to my
negatives like crows to a roadside carcass. If you'll shine
a bright light at the roll when you tear one off you'll see lots of lint
generated just as you tear it off. So I've switched to microfiber
dishtowels or other lint free towels which generate no lint, and wash up
easily. I keep several around with one reserved for 'clean hands'
usually hanging on the faucet so that I can find it when processing film
(in trays). Like everyone else's experience, eventually they end up on
the floor by the door on their way to the washing machine, having
cleaned up some spill, dropped in a tray, or been otherwise used up.
Since switching I've had virtually no lint or dust to deal with in the
darkroom. I was amazed. Bob Younger

I go through a lot of paper towels too. I use the cheapest
ones I can find.

I love my vinyl apron that I got at a kitchen supply place.
It means
I can wear most anything in the darkroom and I don't have to change
clothes to go in there. This is good when I just have a few hours to
work in the dark room between appointments.
