A belated thanks to all who offered help with earlier questions on
cable releases and tips for changing dichroic filter settings in the
dark. I ended up ordering a 20 inch release from Midwest Photo
Exchange-thanks to Michael Briggs for that lead. It arrived quickly
and appears to be very robust (I'll let you know in 20 years or so).
And it does pass Ralph's loose knot test. I've also acquired a red
led flashlight from Electronic Goldmine (mentioned in another
discussion here), for changing filter settings. This one's a bit
awkward to use as you must push and hold a button to keep it on, but
it does the job (and the price was right):

Thanks again to all.

From photos on their website, it looks like www.mpex.com
also has them -- under "Large Format Basics" as "Misc" brand "AUTO-LOCK
RELEASE".
