I think that using only the cleanest-looking cassettes and
getting the "splice" nice and clean is key to the technique Jerry
describes. I've tried it and had mixed results -- some scratches,
but mostly good. Ironically, the last supply of used cassettes I
got contained relatively few DX-coded ones: those that come from
single-use cameras aren't DX-coded, and those things are popular!
