Rather than buying reloadable cassettes I get a bunch of used cassettes from a
local photofinisher. Their machine automatically pulls the film out of each
cassette and cuts it off for processing. There is 1/4 to 1/2 in of film left
sticking out. I tape my film to this end on both the emulsion and backing side
and wind off a bulk load. These cassettes can only be used once as they are
damaged when you open them. BUT; (1) they are free, (2) they are DX encoded,
and (3) they are dust free.
If you refrigerate or freeze your bulk loads then freezer tape is a better
choice than masking tape since it stays sticky longer.
