[pure-silver] Re: Arista EDU Ultra

I have been using the Arista EDU 400 film in 120 and bulk-loaded 35mm for about two years. I bought a bunch of it at a time when it was the only way I could afford to buy enough film for my rate of consumption. The only two problems I encountered are the notorious curl issue, and after two years of use I got one negative with a small but obvious blemish in the emulsion (naturally it was a white spot right in the middle of the young lady's black dress). It appears to be a manufacturing defect.

I would not hesitate to continue using it if money gets that tight again, but when this batch is gone I plan to go back to TMY, which I prefer for its tonality and grain, and complete lack of film curl and manufacturing issues.

BTW, I develop it in PC-TEA 1:49 for twelve minutes at 68 degrees Fahrenheit. That is probably a little on the long side but the light tends to be very flat around here.

Well I recently got my hands on some Arista Edu Ultra film in 100 an 400 speed. Looks like it was made by Freestyle Photographic Supplies or at least marketed by them.

I've used Fomapan 400 in 35mm almost exclusively for the past couple of years, maybe 150 rolls with various emulsion numbers, and have not encountered any quality issues.

My process is: Xtol stock, water stop, Calbe A300 fix.

The film speed is more closer to 200 than 400, so it needs to be overexposed one stop.
