There are some other wet mounting solutions that are a little easier to deal 
w/than mineral oil that are much easier to clean up but I think the easiest and 
cheaper method is to get some very fine talc or, if you find it listed as such, 
anti-newton dust.

I have some in a bottle that has lasted years.

I squeeze the bottle upwards and pass the neg through the little cloud.  This 
prevents newton rings 99% of the time if I have a problematic neg.  No AN glass 
needed.

This is the first time of hear of this.... what is the advantage, disregarding 
the messiness.... could you explain in more detail what is behind this 
procedure.   Is the neg under the glass???
