[pure-silver] Re: 220 Gone Bye Bye?

One thing about Kodak that I experienced that Ihave never experienced with any other photo company. I had a question a while back, so I picked up the phone and gave them a call. I got through to a rep that was both knowledgeable and not only took the time to answer my question but explained why they answered it the way they did in language a dumb photographer could understand.

Made me feel better about all the cash I have poured into yellow boxes over the years and now if all things are equal (which they seldom are) a yellow box gets the first choice not the last. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Charlie Thorsten" <charlie_thorsten@xxxxxxxxx>

While I do primarily shoot on TMY/TMX, my comment

as an endorsement of Kodak products. It's not the
yellow boxes I'm

out of film, that
won't speak well of the industry in general.

I agree. I shoot mostly on TMX100 and Tri-X, and
develop prints in Dektol. I just love all three
products and I want them to stay in production as
long as possible. If Kodak gives up film production
it's because not enough people are buying it. That
doesn't represent a great opportunity for other
manufacturers...it serves as a warning sign for them
too.

I speak from similar experience. In 2000 I started
my own custom Type R printing lab, because the big
labs in the city were getting rid of it. I thought
it was great when another big lab closed down
because I got all their remaining customers. Sadly,
it just didn't last for long. They closed down
for a reason...the demand kept going down. I had
to close down 3 years later because it wasn't
paying for itself, even though I had a small group
of fiercely loyal customers. It just wasn't enough.

If Kodak closes down its film production, it will
cause other manufacturers to seriously rethink
their own operations.
