Right.  You clearly asked for other problems... did you really expect me
to respond to that request with the same problems you already reported?

Well ... curl and the other progs with libraries missing are all part of
usr_devx.sfs !  Straight Puppy has no such 'library missing' issues.

Since they are all parts of usr_devx.sfs, so if we build a working
alternative usr_devx.sfs, *we* can do something about each of
those bugs :-)

Perhaps true.  Once we have a full package list that (once compiled)
results in everything in the current usr_devx.sfs, we can then ask
whether any part of that should be removed from our alternate version. 
Burt it's safer to create the "equivalent" of everything in the original
usr_devx.sfs first, and only then think about removing stuff.
