Greatly appreciated. I have one which a friend of mine made up for me
almost seven years ago. I'm just going to plug the mic into a mixer and see
what happens also.

You're right; very strange! Looks then like your only option is to get a
small pre-amp, plug the boundary microphone into it and the pre-amp output
into the PTR2's line level input.
Sometime way way back on this list there was a discussion about good
pre-amps to use for this purpose. I think I have the name and model of the
one which was recommended somewhere on my computer. Since I will also,
someday, want to make high quality recordings, I'll take a look here and see
if I can dig out the information.

Have you tried plugging the microphone into the line input jack? The
distortion you describe sounds like an overload situation; i.e., the mike is
entirely too hot / powerful for the mike input.

This is very strange then. I must write to Marc at plextor europe where I
bought the machine to find out why this is happening. The microphone
sounds fine whenlistening to it through the headphone socket but the
recording is so distorted that it is completely unusuable.

Hmmm. I have tried such a thing into the plex1. And I never could get it
not to distort.
