Have you tried plugging the microphone into the line input jack? The
distortion you describe sounds like an overload situation; i.e., the mike is
entirely too hot / powerful for the mike input.

This is very strange then. I must write to Marc at plextor europe where I
bought the machine to find out why this is happening. The microphone
sounds fine whenlistening to it through the headphone socket but the
recording is so distorted that it is completely unusuable.

Hmmm. I have tried such a thing into the plex1. And I never could get it
not to distort.
Maybe others have a better idea.
