[pskmail] Re: problem with USER= in retrieving mail

Hi Rein,

I have done some more testing. My bellsouth.net email account works fine, as it always has. Both email accounts that require full email address for USER still do not work.

I started the Wireshark protocol analyzer on the PSKmail server to see what was happening on the ethernet port. What I found is that when using a normal username, POP3Client.pm sends a normal sequence to the server using USER and PASS, with a clear text password. When sending the whole email address as a USER, POP3Client.pm uses the APOP command followed by the whole email address which is then followed by an encrypted password. The mail server then responds with '-ERR authorization failed'.

Perhaps your gmail account understands the APOP command and these that I am using do not? I wonder if a variable can be passed to POP3Client.pm to not use APOP?

I don't have another POP account that needs the '@host.xxx, so I can't test.

Rein

I just installed the rflinkserver.pl in the server and tried both fieldstonefarms@xxxxxxx and fred@xxxxxxxxxxxx The @domain is not getting stripped off any longer but I am still getting the same error from POP3Client.pm.

I notice that the error also occurs when the client first connects to the server, before any QTC is requested.
