The position you enter using the preference editor is in decimal degrees.
That is because most GPS'es use digital degrees
APRS positions are in degrees and decimal minutes,that is because 
the APRS standard uses it.. see http://www.aprs.net/vm/DOS/PROTOCOL.HTM

Positive entries are North and East
Negative entries are South and West
