OK - I'll try again, but even though there is only one mode selected under preferences/edit/mode on the client, the server still attempts to drop down a mode when it doesn't receive the ACK from the server's k.
We still need a way to disable the mode changes on the server. The idea of negotiating mode changes may be a good one, but it makes troubleshooting very difficult when some other problem may exist.
