Hello all I a sorry what I will be writing about has nothing to do with the subject of the mail. A few years ago (I am very persistent) I had a mail exchange with several people about emergency relief communications. I am now working together with the amateur radio operators in Ecuador and the government institution of emergency response (Central de Riesgos) to get an emergency (backup)network on VHF and HFrunning. Most likely we will install a shared network. In this network, amateur radio, NGO's and the government institutions will be integrated. Three modems are in focus: 1-FLDIGI, PSKMAIL. 2-WINMOR 3-Mistd.188-110 Disadvantage of 2 and 3 is that no software for linux distributions exist. Allthough 2 has, but is not completly developed, matured. I tested them using wine in Ubuntu and they work ok. Nevertheless they should run native in Linux. Open source, multiplatform is prefered (a must). The why, I dont`t feel discussing all the time. This is the reason I am most interested in a PSKMAIL solution. Alltough most overhere (Ecuador) don`t agree with me, because they are to used to Windows. I a still looking for the Linux community here. Principal issue I adressed then was the speed of PSKMAIL. Today PSKMAIL has faster and addaptive modems, thats very fine. However for me not fast enough. Also simple operation is very important. Compression / decompression should be handled automaticaly on the fly. Testing Winmor, I found easy use one of the positive elements. (Compression on the fly is not integrated) Also an coordinated, integrated international mailservers implementation is a plus. However I dont like the `controle`issue of the winlink network. Speed. I have been testing and I have implemented milstd. 188-110 software (RFSM8000) in 2 networks, that comunicate on a national scale in Ecuador. RFSM, although windows only, is a nice solution and has an integrated POPmail server. The mail server does not comunicate SSL, but I resolved that with and additional layer software. A big disadvantage of the software is the time to connect. Turn arround times are to long for effective message troughput (for an emergency network) Most of the messages for emergnecy communications are 1KB, 2KB. For 188-110 (RFSM8000) it takes half of the time to connect of the time to get the message transmitted. Needs: a message 1KB, 2KB, shoud be handled in 1 minute, to maintain channel capacity. I wish PSKMAIL to integrate a faster modem, like WINMOR capable of handling a message in 1 minute. Simple and fast. I am aware of the fact that I a not in the position to urge a solution, but however I would like to discuss possiblities to get it done. The authors of FLDIGI, tell me that they have no plans doing so but.... I would like FLDIGI, PSKMAIL be the solutions for reasons of open source, multiplatform. Please let me know all what you think about my proposal and the possiblities to have it done. I woud like to stop dreaming and get the networks running. greetings Karel HC1AKP 2011/1/30 Rein Couperus <rein@xxxxxxxxxxxx> > The attachment is in the downloaded mail Franco, the client just did > not decode it properly, it did not get the right MIME trigger. > I can debug it by downloading again and watching what happens in the > client. > Or rather, what does NOT happen in the client :) > > Rein EA/PA0R/M > > > >Il 30/01/2011 17:23, Rein Couperus ha scritto: > >> First results: > >> > >> Franco's attachment received via SM0RWO (ISS_Track.zip) was indeed empty > >> at reception (3B), so not properly decoded by the client. > >> > > > >File dimension, as result at Gmail WEB site, is 567 bytes > >Content unzipped is 365 bytes (.zip). > >Another test was made with a compressed attach of 617 bytes and > >uncompressed content of 1.5 kb (tar.gz) > > > >If needed I will send you login/password for my OM gmail access. > > > >Regards > > > >Franco Spinelli > >IW2DHW > > > >
