Gunnar, for handling of USB devices google for "udev-rules".Booting depends if you use the Windows loader or the Linux loader. Completely different handling between XP ins Vista/7. Same with old and new Grub version.

Good morning Rein, I have been trying to find a file to edit because now it is not Ubuntu but Windows that starts fist even if Ubuntu was installed after windows. //gunnar -----Original Message----- From: pskmail-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:pskmail-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Rein Couperus Sent: Wednesday, September 14, 2011 9:10 AM To: pskmail@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [pskmail] Re: Linux install for PSKmail server? Hi Gunnar, when you install UBUNTU on a windows machine, normally UBUNTU will take care of the boot process, in GRUB windows is the last one in the list... Rein ================================ Hi,I am running both my server at home and the client onboard that way.One thing that is annoying me is that with dual boot I always have to check so it does not start in Windows. Is there a way of starting in Ubuntu direct? An other problem is that on board I have quite a few different units connected to the computer via USB and Ubuntu has a bit difficult with knowing what is what!! Wind, echo sounder, AIS, GPS, audio interface and so on!! Per recommended to unplug the USB when booting and it works but it´s extra work!!73 de sa6bqz-1 Gunnar------------------------------------------------------------ From: pskmail-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:pskmail-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Joerg Schroeder Sent: Tuesday, September 13, 2011 6:13 PM To: pskmail@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [pskmail] Re: Linux install for PSKmail server?Hi Andy,if you install Ubuntu after Windows it will do also the dual boot for you. I am running Ubuntu on the server pc and had never any problems with that. 73 Joerg DL9YCS 2011/9/13 Andrew O'Brien<k3ukandy@xxxxxxxxx[mailto:k3ukandy@xxxxxxxxx]> I am planning to join the MARS PSKMAIL network and run a server. In the past I ran a server of a Puppy CD. For simplicity of interface with my digital mode interfaces, I would like not to switch computers when I activate the part-time server or move back to ham operations via Windows. My PC has two hard drives, the second one is never used. I was wondering if anyone had advice about a dual boot system and how to install? Also what Linux variant is recommended for use with PSKmail server software ? Andy
