Thanks John, great explanation, I checked fldigi setting, seems to be as per
manual (from pskmail.org side for version 1.0.34 - is that the newest one?). i
will install tomorrow ver 1.5 and see the results.
By any chance where can I get info about server "logic", what you just
explained, when mode is downgraded, when upgraded, what the s2n level must be
etc. that is very helpful.
Thanks again,
Happy New Year

Hi Robert,
Please see my answers next to your questions below.
All normal, except the symmetric connections when it seems RSIDs are decoded
properly (see my comments below).
Best regards,
John (VK2ETA)

[The mail count = -1 means that the server cannot get that call sign's email
list. Most likely because that call sign does not have his email records on
your server. He needs to do an "update server" first]

[Yes, in the absence of reply to its polls, the server will alternatively
downgrade its TX and RX modes until it gets a reply from the client. Here we
have two successive misses hence the downgrade to MFSK32 then THOR22. You will
notice that there is a re-upgrade to MFSK32 as well after the receipt of a good
reply from the client (just before closing the connection).

Note that the connections you had are in what we call symmetric mode meaning
that the RX and TX modes are always the same. That normally happens when the
server's Fldigi does not decode an RSID just before the connect request. We
therefore assume we have an old client that does not know about asymmetric
modes.

But in your case the server does not seem to respond to the RSID and assumes
non asymmetric mode. This is not major but we need to understand why. This is
visible by the "final connect status: asymmetric link: 0" information from the
log.

I would check that in the Fldigi preferences you have the ID settings as per
the Pskmail manual. Otherwise it could be a bug. Let's see if you have the same
issue with 1.5.
The mode down/upgrade works well otherwise.]

[In symmetric mode we need both averages to be above 85 (from memory) to
perform an upgrade. See the next exchange with re-upgrade to MFSK32.
In asymmetric mode the TX and RX modes are manages separately. ]
