Thank you for your enquiry. The relevant information is on the British
Psychological Society website. www.bps.org.uk
From the above website go to the Division of Clinical Psychology link
Clinical psychologists must have an undergraduate degree in psychology
and then complete 3 years postgraduate training in clinical psychology
to become Chartered Clinical Psychologists. All our training programmes
award a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology. Clinical Psychology Training
is funded by the National Health Service. Details of clinical psychology
training are in above website
Post qualification continuing education is compulsory. See the Division
of Clinical Psychology Continuing Professional Development Guidelines in
above website.
Almost all clinical psychologists in the UK, around 5000 are employed by
the National Health Service and are state employees. The work they do is
identified in the website.
In the above website go to the Division of Clinical Psychology link
where you can download relevant documents. A document on Psychosis is
particularly important.
Hope you find this helpful. Please contact me if you wish any other
additional information.
Ian Gray
Vice Chair
Division of Clinical Psychology
