Ok folks!
Please give me time in order to write a good tutorial about how to run
the virtual machine inside a vmware server. I'll also make sure
everything works well and then I'll submit it.
I think I can take care of all this in the next four days. I'll let you know.
I also will try to install the speakupmodified version into a virtual
machine and make sure all its screen readers are working, so one can
have a complete accessible distro with speakup and orca plus eSpeak
working, so they can decide if they want to run the system via ssh or
via its screens. Unfortunately I am having a big trouble in installing
it, cinse the dvd iso won't boot in the virtual machine.
For now, the slackware distro will handle all a relatively good linux
server needs to do. It has no gui installed, the X window system,
gnome, kde and similars are not installed, but it has a brandy modern
kernel 2.6.x and almost all developement packages installed, going
from gcc to perl and python. I think I have installed several dbms,
but I am not sure. As this list * and my own virtual machine * are
focused in software developement, I will make sure that as many
software developement features as possible are installed and running,
so folks can compile and test stuff. The system administration is also
ok, letting folks try and learn linux system administration tasks.
I will send the slackware book, available for free in its dvd or cds,
which will help anyone to learn how to do things, from slackware
packages installation to network configuration. What I like in this
book and in slackware in general is that your life doesn't become hard
if you decide to do everything from the command line. The book it self
teaches you to do everything using the command line, so folks running
the system from ssh which will be what happens with the vm will have a
solid base to learn. In slackware, you just need to edit shell scripts
or .conf files and you can do everything necessary, and this is the
reazon I have choosen this distro to use.
More information about slackware and a great great number of oficial
packages containing all shorts of things can be found at
http://www.slackware.com.
The samba server will be configured to allow windows to access all the
virtual machine file system, because some folks will prefer to edit
files with their favorit windows text editor, sinse they suport linux
line ending conventions.
By making a ready to go linux with all shorts of developement stuff
installed I really hope to help folks who need to develope anything in
linux natively to reach what they need easier
If you have any suggestions please give them now, before I make the vm
ready to upload.
Marlon

When you say "I wrote a program that crashed Windows," people just
stare at you blankly and say "Hey, I got those with the system, for
free."
