Hi Marv:Don't forget to get the necessary info to rebuild the DataBases for any projects that use them if you need to use them.
It might just be easier to manually rebuild them in any case.Remember to coordinate all this with your Instructor, if you get really stuck he might be the only person with enough information to pull you through the entire process.
Good luck. Rick USA----- Original Message ----- From: "Marvin Hunkin" <startrekcafe@xxxxxxxxx>

Hi. will do that and ask him about that.what to install for 2005, once i google the right order to uninstall and askmy lecturer once i have got vs 2008 uninstalled in the right oreder, then check in control panel, then might do a search on my computer for any vs 2008, and any vs 2005 modules left, then hopefully uninstall them. cheers and thanks for your help. ps: okay, will go and then write down the control names and the values foreach project, then copy and paste the code or save it as text files, in thesame folder, so then can go and get them and rebuild, or put them in a special folder. okay, then that will be quicker, well, chapter 1, 2, 3, for the exercisesand the case studies, and then examples for chapter 4 to 14, and i think, iwill probably have to rebuild the web application as well. and in the class exercises, the lecturer did not cover vwd, not necessary, or not essential for the course.and okay, will then recopy my assignments, tests, practice test and in classexercises, as had converted them to 2008, so can then have the 2005 versions. okay thanks for your help. will keep you posted. cheers Marvin.----- Original Message ----- From: "Ricks Place" <OFBGMail@xxxxxxxxx>To: <programmingblind@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Tuesday, November 11, 2008 9:38 PM Subject: Re: visual basic dot net 2005 esxpressHi Marv: I think you will need to remove the 2008 Sql Server modules and the 2008 programming Language modules before trying to install the 2005 versionsbut I'm not sure. I do not tthink removing the Language Modules will be a problem so long asyou get rid of everything related to them correctly. Getting rid of the 2008 Sql Server DataBase Modules, and any old 2005 Sql Server Modules that might impact your clean download might be a little more tricky though. I think youneed to UnInstall them in the proper order or you might end up with someproblems. I do not remember the correct order. You can Google on the correct procedure to UnInstall the Language Modules and the Sql Server Modules. Once you get your machine clean, and you will have to check in the Control Panel to make sure all modules are removed against a list of modules to be removedfrom your research, you can likely copy and paste your vb code into the appropriate text editor if you name the controls the same as the original project. I think you might have to rebuild the controls except the VWD controls which are standard html and MS thingys that might be ok. That's about the best I can figure out. It sounds like something to do carefullyand might take some time even if all goes well getting set up. Good luck, itsounds like you have allot of work to do.Keep in touch with your Instructor to keep him informed on your progress sohe can give you more detail advice on getting set up once you are clean of the 2008 modules. My guess he will have to remove the 2008 modules, and then load up some version of 2005. I remember he also was messing with the DataBases so that might be problematic as well depending on which version he ended up using. The last thing I can think of is that he uses Access DataBases instead of the Sql Server DataBases as defined in hisProjects and that might cause problems for his Instructor as well if he isnot familiar with their setup and use. My guess the only way he is going to get it working is to work directly with his Instructor to match up the versions of everything if he is to just send him a Project to load up and review per the original Course and Project requirements. I don't think Ihave any answers except to find out what his Instructor recommends. Soundslike he will have to uninstall everything 2008 including the DataBase systems. Then install everything that came with the original course and ReWrite his applications using the correct languages and DataBases if hewants to be in sync with the rest of the class. Other than that I wouldn'trecommend doing all that removing and ReInstallation as it might cause some real headaches if not done in the correct order. What was the explicit problem you could not resolve in 2008? Were you having the problem in VWD or in Vb.net Winforms? What statement was giving you the error which your instructor said was due to the language version problem? I really do not think the language version would cause you any problems unless you are copying and pasting code into a config file. So, tell me what statement is not working so I can check it out.
