smile your correct, but in this kind of thing (for reasons obvious in this post) I trust your opinion on lists, smile

Thanks for the complements, but opinion, alone, should not drive this decision. Let's do this. Jeff, can you please make a list of all the subscribers to this list and back that up in three different places, then email it to three different people on here? I'd suggest Inthane, Ken, and myself, but others like jamal, Teddy, Ty, and Laura are all safe bets too. This way, if sh*t happens, we all can reassemble the list, no matter what. Feel free to send me the list as it is put out by whatever management software, mailman I think it is, you're using, and I can return it as a mail alias friendly format for you by writing a quick perl one liner to do that. Also, I can set it up as an absolute mergency alias on my domain, so if youever email a special email address I give you, you can always reach everymember of this list ... They can't reach everyone else, but they'll be ableto write you back. This way, if you ever need to send out list instructions or anything else, and heaven forbid this particular list is screwed up due to whatever reason, you have a way. Then, we have a much more firm safety net if we go to google groups, and itturns out that we have natorious Sina like luck with their subscription process. I have managed, and am managing, countless lists in the past, and am a member of far too many currently, and consistently, without fail, the subscription process to a google groups list is the most frustrating, the most obtuse, the most annoying, the most blind unfriendly, most inaccessible, and most irritating process I have ever had the displeasure of ever encountering or enduring. Not that I feel strongly about the subject, or anything. Alex, Thank you for your reply. I would like to hear by everyone that is interested in replying to thistopic by the end of next week as to whether or not you care if we move thelist to Googlegroups. I will do what the list subscribers feel is best. Personally, I would like to switch to another list provider, like Google or Yahoo. For some reason, most anyoneusing a BrailleNote, as I am, will have the first character in their subject line cut off when sending a message to any Freelist group, which is why my subjects often seem strange. No other list provider seems to dothis, plus I have heard bad things about Freelists from other people as well. Have a great day, Alex----- Original Message ----- From: "Jeff Bishop" <jeff@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx To: <programmingblind@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Date sent: Tue, 14 Jul 2009 19:17:04 -0700 Subject: state of the list as I know it at this time ...Hello Everyone,OK, sit back and take a deep breath. As usual, Freelists support has been shall I say not veryhelpful.Apparently, all three accounts that I have moderated messagesgoing to are not working (one gmail, one personal domain and one university account). Also, Freelists support states that the messages cannot be resent. For this reason, messages sent earlier today will not be seen bythe list and for that I am very very sorry. So, here is what I have done.I have un-moderated the list for the time being. I will keep avery very close eye on things for the next while and if I see anyone goingoff topic and ranting or slamming others on the list you will be sent anemail and asked to stop. If you refuse then you will be removed from thelist and not allowed to post.think of moving the list away from Freelists to Googlegroups where I haveI would also like to ask members of the list what they wouldhad a lot better luck in list control and actually things working. What do all of you think?Again, my most sincerest apologies.Jeff Bishop__________ Information from ESET Smart Security, version of virussignature database 4243 (20090714) __________The message was checked by ESET Smart Security.http://www.eset.com__________ View the list's information and change your settings at //www.freelists.org/list/programmingblind __________ Information from ESET Smart Security, version of virus signature database 4243 (20090714) __________ The message was checked by ESET Smart Security. http://www.eset.com__________ Information from ESET Smart Security, version of virus signature database 4243 (20090714) __________ The message was checked by ESET Smart Security. http://www.eset.com __________ View the list's information and change your settings at //www.freelists.org/list/programmingblind __________ View the list's information and change your settings at //www.freelists.org/list/programmingblind__________ View the list's information and change your settings at //www.freelists.org/list/programmingblind __________ View the list's information and change your settings at //www.freelists.org/list/programmingblind
