     OK, take your hex number.

! Count the number of digits from right to left starting with zero, let's
call that number x
! Multiply that digit by 16 to the power x
! Set the result aside
! Move one digit to the right
! Multiply that digit by 16 to the power x-1
! Set the result aside
! Move one digit to the right
! Multiply that digit by 16 to the power x-2
! Set the result aside
! Continue until you get to the right most digit and finally multiply it by
16 to the power x-x or zero
! Now add all these set aside numbers together to get the base 10 equivalent
of your hex number
