I began to get into this language myself not so long ago, having used cold fusion for most of my programming before. I started out with the tutorial over at w3schools, yes it is basic, but it got me started and from there I've taken it on my own to do more. I installed the latest version of php, 5.3.0, the non thread vc9 version, as I am using it with IIS7.5. If you will use it with apache then get the vc6 version...I'm still looking for a good book or 2 on the topic, will let you know if I come across anything; please do likewise if you find one yourself... It is a good language, I'm using it with my ajax pages, much lighter to maintain and write than perhaps cf...
