Yes, access or msaccess has always allowed for creation of named tables
at least as far back as msaccess '97. I never did anything with
coldfusion but did have occasion to work with msaccess directly so
created a few tables in those days.

@D, J, i didn't understand the concern you raised, access does support
the table names though, this means that one can name the tables of
course.
