Sound Taxi is supposed to remove drm from files. I think it costs around $30, but I have never used it or looked into it since I personally find Bookshare meets my needs.

Have a great day,
Alex

So, here's my question, to any and all who may have an
answer. I'm currently blind, which gives me very few options for purchasing commercially available ebooks. I am aware of resources such as NLS and Bookshare, but I am talking about books I can purchase, not get for free once someone has found it worth it to convert into a specialized format. Most of the formats that I can purchase, require me to sit at my computer in order to "read" the book I just purchased. There are programs out there that convert a lot of different ebook formats into ..rtf, .html, and .txt files, but they don't convert books that have drm (digital rights management) protection, which most ebooks from big name publishing houses usually do. Does anybody know of a work around? I would love to purchase commercially available ebooks and magazines, and have the freedom to read them with my device of choice. Please let me know what you find out, and feel free to forwrd this email to someone you know that might be able to help. I only ask that you use discretion because what I am asking is in a legal gray area. I am not tpersonally interested in using this technology for unscrupulous purposes, but this type of technology could be used to steal books, if one was so inclined.
