Search for apache and ssl with Google or search directly on Apache's web
site for ssl, and you will find what you need.
You might need to uncomment the following line in httpd.conf:
LoadModule ssl_module modules/mod_ssl.so
then you will also need to generate your public/private key, and specify
them in httpd.conf as you will learn from Apache web site.

Thanks for this. I'll need to do a google search about a secure parameter
for cookies, but I still don't understand about the https:// protocol. How
do I set it up where certain pages use this protocol? Where can I read up
on this?

You should do it just like when using http protocol.
When defining a cookie, you may want to use the secure parameter for
specifying that the cookie can be sent only when using https.

I'm interested in processing forms, and cookies over an https://
connection. Can someone please start me off in the right direction to
read up on how this can be done?
